Four Weeks to IMTS 2026: Deadlines, Costs, and What's Worth Scouting
The biggest manufacturing technology show in the Western Hemisphere opens in four weeks. IMTS 2026 runs September 14–19 at McCormick Place in Chicago — more than 1.2 million square feet of exhibit space, 1,800-plus manufacturers and suppliers, and ten technology sectors covering everything from automation and quality assurance to additive, fabricating and lasers, software, and tooling.
If you're still deciding whether to send people, here's the honest math: the deadlines that actually cost you money hit before the show does. This is the week to decide.
The deadlines come before the doors open
As published on the IMTS registration page as of August 17, 2026: individual registration is $85 before September 3, 2026. Groups of five or more register at $65 per person — but only before August 1, and the organizer states prices increase in August, so if the group window has passed for your team, the individual advance rate is the one left to protect. Distributor and exhibitor staff badges run $60 before September 3. Badges begin shipping in August.
A few categories get in free: international visitors, students, educators, and media. Active-duty and retired service members get 50% off. The hotel block is open, with shuttles running from most participating hotels during show days.
Prices and dates can change — confirm on the registration page before you buy.
One badge decision worth thinking through
Conference registration includes full exhibit-hall access for all six days. That changes the math for a small team: if one of your people is going to a paid conference anyway, that single purchase covers both the education and the floor. A maintenance lead attending a one-day conference doesn't need a separate exhibits badge for the rest of the week.
The conference lineup, in brief
Nine conferences with more than 90 sessions run Monday through Thursday of show week — the show itself runs through Friday, so a Friday-only trip is exhibits-only. The lineup includes The IMTS 2026 Conference (69 sessions), the Job Shops Workshop, IMTS Elevate powered by WiM, IMTS Conferencias Técnicas, the IMTS Investor Summit, the Industrial Laser Conference, an AM+ Workshop for Aerospace & Defense — and the one drawing the most attention this cycle:
The IMTS Industrial AI Conference — one day, Wednesday, September 16, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., South Building Room S401-ABC. $450 in advance, $500 on-site (the on-site rate kicks in September 1). The program is practitioner-focused: predictive maintenance, quality, edge versus cloud, small models versus large language models, assessing whether your data is actually ready, and using the infrastructure you already have "to start fast without major new spend," per the organizer. Programming was developed with Dr. Jay Lee and the University of Maryland Center for Industrial AI.
New on the floor this year: an Industrial AI Arena with 32 exhibitors focused on AI-driven manufacturing solutions, plus Sandia National Laboratories — announced in the organizer's July 14, 2026 release.
Plan by building, not by brand
A detail that ruins one-day walking plans every show: hall hours differ by building. East Level 3 and West run 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; North and South run 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Build your route around which halls hold your priorities, and check the sector map before you commit a morning.
On attendance: the organizer's own pages publish slightly different figures — the About page lists 90,000 visitors and over 2,000 exhibitors; a July 14 release says more than 89,000 people and 1,800 exhibitors; a June 11 release expected more than 86,000 registrants. However you count it, it's a big, dense week — which is exactly why the walking plan matters.
The bottom line
If more than four people are going, the pricing windows are the thing to act on this week. Decide badge types before booking travel, remember conferences end Thursday, and plan your floor route by building hours.
